Mobile technology enables us to stay connected with one another. However, increasing reliance on social media creates instant connectivity, which adds underlying pressure for people to network everywhere and at anytime. This project proposes an “anti”-networking space, which allows occupants to control their level of desire for social engagement, through the use of double sided window. Different activity platforms provide hierarchies at eye level to avoid direct contact, which prevent people from being obligated to participate in conversations. The different hierarchal levels allow occupants to only see parts of the other persons within the space (head, feet, torso, etc.) This creates a unique focal perspective, which offers intriguing possibilities for social interaction in the digital age.
The project not only challenges the traditional idea of space and body, perceiving them as equal objects; but also generates conventional confessing notions into fully self-reflective experience. A semi-open form engages with the body, suggesting the act of homogenized. Offset printing aluminum plates are implemented as materiality, offering an ambivalent reflectiveness. The texture allows the occupant gains an illusion of solitary and develops sense of concession.
